Hundreds of local charities will benefit from a record-setting number of donations on Giving Hearts Day, and we’re happy to have contributed to this amazing effort!
Bell employees donated $107,215 of their Pay It Forward funds on Giving Hearts Day, for a matched impact of $214,430, helping to make this year’s one-day fundraising event the biggest so far!
Donations to qualifying local charities are matched on Giving Hearts Day (held Thursday, Feb. 8, this year), and preliminary numbers show the event raised over $13 million for local charities.
Bell’s Pay It Forward program gives employees money to donate to people and organizations in need. So far, Bell has given more than $11 million in gifts through the program. (Read some of our Pay it Forward stories.)
“Truly the Pay It Forward program has changed all of our lives,” says Julie Peterson Klein, Bell’s chief culture officer. “We find that giving in this way impacts all of us, the givers, as much as those who receive the donations. Most importantly, it has opened all of our eyes and hearts to the needs around us, whether in our own community or across the world.”
Dakota Medical Foundation launched Giving Hearts Day in 2008, and so far, more than $54 million has been raised for North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota charities through the online fundraiser. This year, more than 28,000 individual donors participated – nearly 7,000 more than last year.
