What does the Bell State Bank & Trust mobile check deposit service do?

A Mobile Check Deposit allows you to make a deposit directly into your checking or savings account using the Bell State Bank & Trust App on supported iPhone® or Android™ smartphones.

Mobile check deposit lets you submit photos of the front and back of your endorsed check. Your deposit is safe and you can deposit checks on your schedule. No deposit slips, lines or time out of your busy day to stop by a branch.

We use advanced encryption and security technology:

  • Online banking credentials are not stored on your mobile device.
  • Check images are not stored on your mobile device.
  • You view accounts by nicknames you can define, not by account numbers.
  • 128-bit encryption masks your sensitive information.

Is there a fee?

No, Bell State Bank & Trust’s Mobile Check Deposit feature is free.

Who can use the Mobile Check Deposit service?

Bell State Bank & Trust Personal Online Banking customers who have the Bell State Bank & Trust App are eligible. If you’re not signed up for Personal Online Banking, enroll now before you download the app. Personal Online Banking users: Simply download the appropriate “Bell Bank” Mobile Banking App for your Android or iPhone and log in with your Bell State Bank & Trust Personal Online Banking username and password. (The Mobile Check Deposit feature is not available for business accounts.)

How do I get Mobile Check Deposit?

Mobile Check Deposit is available in the Bell State Bank & Trust App on supported iPhone or Android smartphones. Sign in to the App and select the Deposit tab.

Download – Visit the App Store or Google Play on your mobile device and search for Bell Bank.

How does Mobile Deposit work?

It’s secure and easy to use.

Sign on to your Bell Bank mobile app then follow these simple steps:

  1. Select the deposit tab.
  2. Choose the account where you want to deposit your check.
  3. Enter the check amount.
  4. Take a picture of the front and back of your endorsed check (Sign the back of your check, plus write “Bell Mobile Deposit” underneath your signature) with your mobile device. For photos that work best, follow these guidelines:
    1. Place your check on a dark-colored, plain surface that’s well lit
    2. Position your camera directly over the check (not at an angle)
    3. Fit all 4 corners in the guides of your mobile device’s camera screen
  5. Submit your deposit.

You’ll receive a confirmation message on your mobile device for each successful deposit. The check will be deposited into your account within two business days.

Deposit limits

Each check is considered a separate deposit. You can make multiple deposits in a single mobile session. There is no limit to the number of checks you can deposit in a day. However, there are daily deposit limits for each user.

What types of checks can I deposit?

You can deposit checks payable in U.S. dollars and drawn at any U.S. bank, including personal, business, and government checks. They must also be payable to, and endorsed by the account holder.

When will the check be deposited into my account?

The check will be deposited into your account within two business days.

How will I know if there’s a problem with my mobile deposit after I submit it?

The app will verify a number of areas on the deposited check before you submit it. If the app catches something it will fail before you can submit the check.  Checks will also be reviewed by the bank.  If the check isn’t completed properly or isn’t able to be accepted for deposit, it will be failed.  This information can be found by signing into the app, selecting the Deposit tab, and then clicking on View Previous Deposits.  This will tell you if your deposit is pending, accepted, or failed.  For any questions on a failed check, please call Customer Service at 800-450-1529 or 701-298-1539.

What should I do with my paper check?

After depositing your check using mobile check deposit, please follow these best practice guidelines:

  1.  If you didn’t complete this before your deposit, write “Bell Mobile Deposit” on the back of your check under your signature.
  2. Securely store your check until you have seen the deposit show in your account transaction history and the funds are reflected in your account balance.  After you have verified this, you are required to shred the check.

How can I tell if the camera I have on my smartphone is capable of supporting Mobile Check Deposits?

It is recommended to have a phone with at least a 2 M.P. (megapixel) camera.  This will ensure your check image is an acceptable quality for deposit.

What if the phone says the battery is too low to use the camera?

The battery power on your phone is too low to support the use of the camera. You must find a power source to charge your phone before you can use the camera function. Depending on the phone, you may be able to use the camera immediately while you have it plugged in and charging, otherwise you may need to wait until the battery has been charged to a level which will support the camera function.
