Warning: Phone Scam Targeting Consumers

A phone scam is currently affecting consumers in North Dakota and Minnesota. The callers are trying to fraudulently obtain private information by impersonating a legitimate business. They are requesting “verification” of information. We have had several reports where consumers have received phone calls asking to verify their account and debit card numbers to activate or unlock their card. If you receive a phone call like this, do not give out any personal information.

    Here is a tip one of our customers wished to pass along regarding a related scam:

    “I got a call like that. They told me my bank account is locked and that I needed to verify my info. I just hung up and reported the phone number to this telephone scams watchdog site http://www.callercenter.com. And the last time I checked, the site has about 16 other complaints for the same phone number. Here is the number that called me: 214-232-0615.”
